The Arts

Lexington’s growing art community is alive with talent, programs and venues that support the arts and encourage artistic expression in our community. Home of The LEX, a lovingly restored art-deco era venue offering 10,000 sq ft of space for concerts, live theatre, community activities, dances, and many more events serves as a backdrop to Lexington’s art scene. Built in 1939 as a Works Project Administration (WPA) project, The LEX  has once again returned to the center of Lexington’s bustling social life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

River City Players is our community theatre ensemble, producing three shows a year, and a cornerstone in our cultural community since 1982. The Lexington Regional Arts Council fosters arts in our community by partnering with area schools, community groups and projects to help fund activities that ultimately promote local economic development. Our local gallery, Gallery 1029, embodies the true spirit of the arts and features many local artists, musicians and lovers of culture in a relaxed atmosphere sure to inspire.

Film

Lexington offers extensive historical sites and scenic backdrops for your film or video project. Our area offers river bluff views and rolling hills of prairie, orchards, vineyards and farmland to grand historical mansions of the pre-Civil War era, summer kitchens, slave quarters, log cabins from pioneer times, a civil war battlefield and much more. Our broad selection of locale and close proximity to the metro Kansas City area present flexible opportunities for any production.
