River Merchants
House: 1850’s vernacular brick merchant’s home
with original ground level commercial space, which served river travelers
using the main route (10th Street) to access downtown from the piers.
The house was recently saved from demolition after a devastating fire
in 2002 had pretty well gutted it. Painstaking efforts were taken to
preserve the remaining elements and to blend them with modern conveniences
to create a comfortable and unusual living space.
