| Wentworth House: The Stephen G. Wentworth Home, built in 1845, has no doubt seen the most prominent men and women from Missouri’s early days grace its threshold. Mr. Wentworth served as Lexington’s public administrator before founding Wentworth Military Academy. The home’s listing on the National Register of Historic Places states, “Fine two story red brick Greek revival, rectangular plan with two tiered full length gallery across the rear, accommodated by a sloping roof. Tall parapet end walls. Front windows exhibit distinctive four light sidelights flanking the four windows in the first and second floor. Balconied entry portico with square posts is original. Inset stone lintels and sills on front façade. Small bracketed cornice and small returns.” |
